A Small Town With a Lot of New Concrete
Battle Ground has added more homes in the last decade than most towns its size, and that means a lot of new garage floors that need epoxy flooring. The census counted 1,334 residents in 2010 and 1,838 in 2020, an increase of about 38%. Housing units rose from 530 to 706 over the same years. Most of those new houses came with attached garages, and most of those garages still have bare concrete.
When to coat a new garage
New concrete needs time to cure before a coating goes on it. A builder's slab poured last summer is usually ready for grinding and coating within a few months, but we test moisture to be sure. Coating in the first year or two has a real advantage. The slab has seen little salt and oil, so prep is faster and the finished floor protects the concrete before winter damage starts. Our usual Battle Ground garage job includes:
- Grinding off the builder's smooth finish and any cure-and-seal product
- Filling the hairline shrinkage cracks common in young slabs
- A full broadcast of color flake over the base coat
- A clear polyaspartic or epoxy topcoat sized to the traffic
The older part of town
Battle Ground also has history. The town took its name from the Battle of Tippecanoe, fought here on November 7, 1811. It was incorporated in 1867 after joining with Harrisonville, and the Battle Ground Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Homes in and near that district are older, and their garages and basements show it: worn paint, patched cracks and uneven surfaces. We plan more repair work for those floors and price it in the written estimate.
Creeks and damp ground
Burnett Creek runs along the western edge of town, and Harrison Creek starts nearby and flows east. The town sits about 1.25 miles northwest of the Wabash. Homes on lower ground near the creeks can have damp basement slabs, especially in spring. We take a moisture reading on every basement and slab-on-grade floor and pick a primer that suits the result. If water is actually coming through the floor, we say so and hold off on the coating.
What Battle Ground families use their garages for
With a young population and growing subdivisions, many garages here do double duty. They hold the cars, the bikes, the sports gear and often a workbench or a home gym. A flake floor handles that mix well. It has grip for wet shoes, it hides scuffs, and it cleans up with a hose. For gym corners we can add a heavier topcoat where weights get dropped.
Basements in new construction
Many newer Battle Ground homes have unfinished basements that owners plan to use later. Coating the floor before you add walls and furniture is the easiest time to do it. The whole slab is open, nothing has to be moved, and the coating can run right to the foundation walls. We test the slab first, because new basement concrete can hold moisture for a long time after the house is built. If the reading is high, we wait or use a primer made for damp concrete.
What install week looks like
Most Battle Ground garages take one or two days of work. Day one is grinding, vacuuming and crack repair, followed by the base coat and flake. The topcoat goes on once the base has set, which can be the same day or the next morning depending on the system and the temperature. We cover nearby walls, keep dust down with vacuum-equipped grinders, and leave you written times for walking on the floor and parking. Clearing the garage before we arrive saves time, and we can tell you at the estimate what needs to come out.

- Historic district. The Battle Ground Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, next to the 1811 Tippecanoe battlefield.

Battle Ground Questions
How soon can I coat the garage in my new Battle Ground home?
Most new slabs are ready within a few months of the pour, once the concrete has cured and dried. We test moisture at the estimate and tell you if we need to wait.
Is flake or solid color better for a busy family garage?
Most families pick a full flake floor. It adds grip, hides dirt and scuffs, and handles bikes, sports gear and cars. Solid colors look sleek but show dirt faster.
